Reaching the limits!
In 2001 when Lucas Enric did the Carros de Foc circuit in 10h35 many thought that time record would last many years, even though Enric himself said that someone could do it in 8 hours! It took eight years for Jesus Mari Romon to beat Enric’s time and finish in 9h 27´. Now since this new record was set the door is open.... we want to know where the limit is and we want to reward such dedication and effort. This year we are offering a prize of € 20 for every minute lower than the current 9h 27´. time record.
Reach for your limit!

To get the Finisher prize, it is imperative to get a stamp from all the shelters on your pass.
The Pass
It is essential to stamp the pass in all the shelters to get the exclusive Finisher awards for both Open and Sky Runner categories.
The pass booklet and kit costs 35 € and includes useful material for the trip:
coolmax hat - Crossing kit ( light towel and ear plugs ) - alpina map "carros de foc" 1:25.000, bag sheet
"Carros de Foc": North and South
From June, 5th to September, 25th.
This formula is ideal for people who don’t have enough time to do the whole trip at once.
It works like the Open, but it is divided in two sections, the North and the South. First one follows one of the routes and then must complete the other part of the journey within the same season.
The pass is the same. After finishing the first trip it should be kept and only at the end of the second trip one will earn the Finisher prize.
The recommended time for Carros de Foc North and South route, is about 3 days for each section.
The organization is not responsible for the loss of the pass.
Landscape
The Carros de Foc itinerary joins the nine staffed refuges located within the Aigües Tortes and Sant Maurici Lake National Park. The entire route is in high mountain terrain, where granite boulders, rock quarries and paths mix together forming a route with a total of accumulation of 9200 meters and a distance of 55 kilometers.
Signing
The itinerary does not have special signing.
Clients will pass through areas with evident painted markers (signs) of the GR11.
On occasion clients will encounter wooden stakes painted yellow which mark the path. The majority of the time clients will follow the path using the stone cairns (rocks placed on top of one another) as a guide which other mountaineers have “built”.
Altitude
The refuges are located between 1900 and 2400 meters above sea level. The average altitude of the route is 2400 meters and the highest point along the route is the Contraig Saddle at 2745 meters.
It is necessary to carry a map.

List of shelters
Introduction
The shelters are set up to provide facilities for traditional sports such as climbing or hiking.
The fragile environment of the mountain needs a lot of respect and care for its maintenance. The involvement and cooperation of its users is essential to save and maintain it.
The shelters are self-sufficient bases operating in difficult situations. Breakdowns in communications, energy systems and water facilities occur and are not always quickly repaired. In those moments, it is collaboration and understanding which are of a great help to fix these situations.
Particularities
Not all shelters are equal and offer the same services. Some have electricity and other solar panels. Some have motorized access but others not. These differences mean that each shelter is particular.
Trash may be left at these refuges as there is vehicular access:
- J.Mª Blanc – E. Mallafré – Amitges – Estany Llong
- Payment may be made with VISA at these refuges: J. Mª Blanc i Amitges.
The following refuges have showers with hot water:
- Estany Llong – Colomina – J. Mª Blanc - E. Mallafré - Amitges.
Thank you for your collaboration.
