It all started in the summer of 1987, when some of the refuge keepers in the area spontaneously decided to take a circular walk arond the Aigüestortes i Llac de Sant Maurici National Park in only one day. They were only paying visits of courtesy to the other refuges. After this first visit there were many others. In the same spontaneous way, the name, Carros de Foc, was born. Even today, after so many years, the origin of the name is unknown; we don’t exactly know why it is called so or who inspired it source.
With the passing of the years the route has become the greatest classic of the Pyrenees, a must visit for all lovers of the high mountain. The stunning beauty of its landscape is the only responsible for the thousands of people walking along its paths, crowning its summits and making the name ‑with its uncertain origins‑ go from mouth to mouth: CARROS DE FOC.
